The GMAT, administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council, reveals that the typical GMAT total score hovers around 560. This score is derived solely from the verbal and quantitative sections of the exam. The verbal and quantitative parts are evaluated separately, each receiving a score between 0 and 60. On average, test-takers achieve around 27 in the verbal section and 40 in the quantitative section. Testers are also given a score ranging from 1 to 8 for the integrated reasoning section, with each point incrementing by one.
Furthermore, they receive an analytical writing score that ranges from 0 to 6, with each half-point increment reflecting their performance in this area. The mean integrated reasoning score is slightly higher than 4, while the average analytical writing score is approximately 4.5. Regarding GMAT scores, selective business programs seek candidates who stand out from the crowd. They expect scores well above average, particularly regarding the total score and the sections that contribute to it. For instance, Harvard Business School reveals the median scores of its latest class, including 41 for verbal, 48 for quantitative, and 730 for verbal. It is essential to mention that graduate business programs that are highly ranked consistently demonstrate average GMAT total scores between 650 and 700. If students dedicate sufficient effort to their GMAT studies and receive instruction from top-notch GMAT instructors, the majority of them have the potential to achieve impressive GMAT scores.
